Enel powering Formula E
Enel is the Official Power Partner of the FIA Formula E (FE) championship for three seasons. The partnership was launched in May 2016 and aims to drive the technological advancement of the championship’s power infrastructure. Enel is working with FE to implement and optimise its innovative clean energy generation, distribution and management solutions, by providing a fully digitised micro-grid that uses the company’s smart metering and energy management technology, and integrates renewable energy sources coupled with storage and electric mobility infrastructure.

Enel and Seedstars sign cooperation agreement
Enel Group (“Enel”), through its renewable energies division Enel Green Power, and Swiss-based group Seedstars World SA (“Seedstars”), have signed a cooperation agreement establishing the Africa Energy Track challenge, a competition aimed at identifying innovative startups in the field of electricity access in Africa within the framework of the Seedstars World startup competition. The project’s goal is to enhance technology and entrepreneurship in sub-Saharan rural areas by bringing innovative energy solutions focused on electric mobility, storage, distributed generation and energy efficiency, thereby tackling UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG7 - ensuring affordable and clean energy for all.

Berkshire Hathaway Energy to acquire Oncor Electric from EFH
After being unable to strike a deal with Hunt Consolidated Inc. of Texas and Florida's NextEra Energy Incorporated, to sell off its subsidiary Oncor Electric Delivery Company LLC, Energy Future Holdings (EFH) is now in talks with Berkshire Hathaway Energy, a unit of Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc. for the same. The latter has announced its plans to buy Oncor for USD9 billion, in cash. Reportedly, including debt, the deal has an enterprise value of about USD18 billion. The acquisition would be one of Berkshire's largest ever, since the USD32 billion purchase of Precision Castparts Corporation in 2016.

Enel signs agreement with Amber Kinetics
Enel S.p.A. (“Enel”) signed a two-year agreement with Amber Kinetics, the US-based start-up born out of an initiative of professors and researchers from UC Berkeley, with the aim of jointly assessing the start-up’s innovative “flywheel” storage technology, which is an electro-mechanical system consisting of a large rotating mass able to store energy.

Undersea HVDC cables, discovering some of the world’s top power interconnections
The deepest submarine power cable in the world runs in the Tyrrhenian sea, 1,600 metres below sea level. It connects Sardinia with the Italian mainland. The project is called SA.PE.I and links the converter stations of Fiume Santo, near Sassari, and Latina.

Air Liquide Signs New Contracts in the Fiber Optics Industry in China
Over a one-year time period, Air Liquide (Paris:AI) signed new supply-contracts covering a period of 10 to 15 years with three major Chinese fiber optics manufacturers. In the frame of these new contracts with Futong Group Communication Technology, Yangtze Optical Fibre, and Zhongtian Technology Fine Materials, Air Liquide will supply a total exceeding 6,000Nm3 per hour of hydrogen and 4,000Nm3 per hour of nitrogen, together with bulk oxygen, helium, argon and carbon dioxide. Air Liquide will thus support the further development of China’s fiber optics industry.

Enel Group signs agreement to acquire EnerNOC
Enel Green Power North America, Inc. (“EGPNA”), an Enel Group subsidiary, has signed an agreement, unanimously approved by the board of directors of US-based company EnerNOC (Nasdaq: ENOC), to purchase 100% of EnerNOC for a total consideration of approximately 250 million US dollars . EnerNOC is a US-based leading provider of demand response and energy services for utility, commercial, institutional and industrial customers. The acquisition of EnerNOC will make the Enel Group a global leader in demand response services while bringing EnerNOC’s energy management technology and services to Enel’s existing commercial and industrial customers.
