    US DoE withdraws support for Plains & Eastern Clean Energy project
    The US Department of Energy (DoE) has withdrawn from a 2016 agreement to partner in the development of Plains & Eastern Clean Energy (PECL) Project proposed by Clean Line Energy (CLE), owing to the substantial opposition being faced by the project from landowners in Arkansas. Further, the project had also failed to secure a contract from the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) to buy the wind energy it would transmit. TVA stated that since its commercial customers are more interested in solar power generated locally, it does not see a need for wind energy from the project.

    Prysmian Group signs framework agreement with Terna to upgrade the Italian power grid
    Prysmian Group, world leader in the energy and telecom cable systems industry, has been awarded — as lead contractor in the Temporary Association of Companies (RTI) involving CEBAT S.r.l. and Elettrovit S.r.l., which will carry out the civil engineering installation works — a framework contract for the supply, installation and emergency repairs on 220 kV cables with the Italian transmission system operator Terna, through its subsidiary Terna Rete Italia, to upgrade the national power grid.

    Egyptian Communications Minister: HENGTONG Brings Profound Changes to Egypt!
    An optical cable factory, co-established by HENGTONG OPTIC-ELECTRIC CO., LTD in China’s Jiangsu Province and HitekNOFAL Group in Egypt, held the opening and commission ceremony in Bader Industrial City in Cairo, Egypt’s capital, on March 6th. It will become the first optical fiber and cable factory in the local area. Yasir Kadi, Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Han Bing, Commercial Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Egypt, as well as Qian Jianlin, CEO of the HENGTONG Group and president of HENGTONG OPTIC-ELECTRIC, were present at the ceremony.

    HFCL to set up optical fibre plant for Rs. 250 cr.
    Himachal Futuristic Communications Ltd. is setting up an optical fibre unit near Hyderabad with an investment of around Rs. 250 crore. It will be one of the few such in the country, making principal raw material for optical cables, and is expected to commence production in April 2019. Unit to have 6.4 mn fibre km capacity.

    Elia tests first drone for long-distance flight
    On 6 March 2018, a Delair fixed-wing drone successfully completed a demonstration flight along a 70kV high-voltage line in Sint-Truiden. The unmanned aerial vehicle took off from Droneport, an incubator for drones, and completed a 10 km flight lasting 30 minutes.
