Ningbo Orient Wires & Cables has bagged a CNY180 million (USD27 million) contract to supply and lay 35 kilovolt submarine cables for an offshore wind farm in Guangdong province, its second successful bid to supply power lines for the project.

The firm revealed that Three Gorges, which runs the 300 megawatt power plant, accepted its bid in a statement yesterday. Ningbo Orient announced earlier this month that it had won the engineering, procurement and construction tender for the wind farm’s 220 kilovolt underwater cables.

Three Gorges began building the plant in Yangjiang in November. It is slated to enter operation late next year with fifty five 5.5 megawatt turbines. The operator forecasts annual generation capacity at around 827 million kilowatt-hours.

The plant is not the first of its kind in the gusty region. State-owned China General Nuclear Power Group has also built a 400,000 kilowatt wind farm off the city’s coast, opting for Chinese cable maker Hengtong Optic-Electric to supply and install power cables for the project.
