Enel, through its subsidiary Enel Green Power Brasil Participações ("EGPB"), has started construction of the Lapa solar park, which is located in Bom Jesus da Lapa in Brazil’s north-eastern state of Bahia.

The solar park is composed of two facilities, the 80 MW Bom Jesus da Lapa and the 78 MW Lapa. Once up and running, the 158 MW park will be able to generate close to 340 GWh per year, enough to meet the annual energy consumption needs of more than 166,000 Brazilian households while avoiding the emission of about 198,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.

Enel will be investing approximately 175 million US dollars in the construction of Lapa, which is expected to enter into service in the second half of 2017. The solar park will be supported by 20-year supply contracts that provide for the sale of specified volumes of energy generated by the plants to the Brazilian Chamber of Commercialisation of Electric Energy (Câmara de Comercialização da Energia Elétrica or CCEE).

The Lapa solar park will be built in an area with high levels of solar radiation and will make a significant contribution to meeting Brazil’s need for new power generation.

The project was awarded to the Enel Group together with Horizonte MP (103 MW) and Nova Olinda (292 MW) during the “Leilão de Reserva” public tender that in August 2015 made the Group the Brazilian solar industry’s top player in terms of installed capacity and project portfolio.

In the state of Bahia, the Enel Group, through its subsidiary EGPB, is also building the 254 MW Ituverava facility, which is Enel’s largest solar plant currently under construction, and the 180 MW Delfina wind project. In Bahia, EGPB already operates 264 MW of wind capacity and has been awarded a further 172 MW of wind as well as 103 MW of PV capacity through public tenders.

The Enel Group’s Brazilian renewable subsidiary currently has a total installed capacity of 506 MW, of which 401 MW comes from wind, 12 MW from PV solar and 93 MW from hydro. Moreover, the company has 442 MW of wind, 102 MW of hydro and 807 MW of solar projects currently in execution and was awarded a concession for two hydro plants with a total capacity of 40 MW in November 2015.
