17 of september at Palazzo Donini, headquarters of Umbria’s regional government, the President of the Umbria Region, Catiuscia Marini, Enel’s Head of Infrastructure and Networks for Central Italy, Gianluigi Fioriti and the Chairman of local utility ASM Terni, Carlo Ottone, along with other local institutional representatives inaugurated the recharge network for electric vehicles, installed by Enel in 15 historic Umbrian cities. The 15 newly installed recharge facilities add to the 28 already installed facilities in Perugia, 2 facilities installed in Marsciano, in the province of Perugia, and 2 in Passignano, again in the same province. Overall, there are now 47 recharge facilities for electric vehicle installed in Umbria.

Just a year on from the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Region of Umbria, Enel, ASM Terni and the municipal authorities involved in the project, the region now boasts a widespread recharge network at the service of the residents and countless visitors who head there.

To facilitate this, Enel and ASM Terni have installed the same recharge system, based on Enel technology. This means that the infrastructure of the two Distributors is perfectly interoperable, to the enormous benefit of users who can recharge their vehicles using the same card and without any additional charges.

Today’s inauguration of the new Umbrian recharge network took place in the two regional capitals, Perugia and Terni. A convoy of electric cars carrying the institutional representatives set off from the new Enel column in Perugia, reaching its destination 80kms later at the ASM recharge infrastructure in Terni.

In the next few days, the new recharge points will be inaugurated in the other municipalities signed up to the project, in the following order: Gubbio, Gualdo Tadino, Foligno, Spoleto, Cascia, Norcia, Marsciano, Narni, Castiglione del Lago, Città di Castello, Todi, Assisi and Orvieto. All these municipalities are located in the province of Perugia except for Narni and Orvieto which are located in the province of Terni. The electric mobility tour will be concluded in Assisi on October 2nd.

Umbria hence becomes the second Italian region, after Emilia Romagna, to benefit from an e-mobility system which is interoperable on a regional scale.

With an average distance of 40km between each municipality, the electric vehicles currently on the road will have perfect autonomy and the recharge network infrastructure will be capable of supporting all the traffic between municipalities, granting green credentials to the tourist routes and cultural itineraries using the regional road system.

Furthermore, residents and visitors will also be able to recharge their vehicles in Umbria’s neighbouring regions, thanks to the distributors Hera, Iren (Emilia Romagna), Acea (Rome) and A2A (Milan) opting for the same technology.

The website www.eneldrive.it shows the exact location of the recharge columns installed in Italian cities and towns and a smartphone app provides the location of the nearest column and its distance from the user’s electric vehicle.

The innovative technology of the Enel Distribuzione recharge system uses both public and home recharge points which are equipped with an electronic meter, together with a remote management system making it possible to provide eco-friendly motorists a state-of-the-art service and enabling them to recharge their vehicles simply, safely and economically.

Enel has based the design and production of this recharge infrastructure on the technology developed for its own grid, with over 36 million “smart” electronic meters installed in homes in Italy and overseas. These meters, which are read and managed remotely by Enel, make up a unique system, the only one of its kind in the world, which enables a number of operations that previously required the presence of an operator to be performed remotely.
