Minister of Communications: import of substitution software in Russia will take 3-7 years

Ministry of Communications of Russia is preparing measures for import substitution of software that can be implemented within three to seven years, according to the international youth forum "Tauris" on Friday, as the head of department Nikolay Nikiforov says.

"We are preparing a package of measures to support step by step, year by year development and formation of the whole large import-substituting industry software. <...> We are developing a mechanism that would allow the industry to strengthen. This is not a quick way is the path that will take three years , five years, seven years in some areas, "- Nikiforov said to journalists, as RIA Novosti reported.

The minister did not mention specific types of software products, but noted that there is a dependence on many of them. These are mobile operating systems, database management systems. He said that the funds for these purposes will be drawn from non-budgetary sources. "This should not be funding from taxpayers' money. This should be mechanisms in the industry, which will allow to solve such a massive task," - said Nikiforov.

This question has been debated for a long time, as experts remind. The idea of creating national software platform, including the operating system and its annexes, which would replace the judgment of the foreign producers, is now difficult realizable,as earlier the head of a software company IBS Anatoly Karachinskiy said. He noted that the problem here is not in cash, but the scale to attract qualified personnel.
