On the new 420- kV transmission line Ørskog - Sogndal (between Erskug and Sogndal ) in the central part of Norway the company Nexans will use wires, specially designed to minimize the visual impact of color by selecting the wire.

Norwegian power system operator , the state company Statnett, uses these innovative colored wires on an overhead power line , connecting with Central Norway Western Norway. Special gray-green surface treatment of new wires matches the background of pine forest to help to blend in with the most environmentally sensitive sections of the route .

The construction of the Ørskog - Sogndal line with length of 297 km , which is scheduled for completion in 2016, is a strategic project . As a result of this project there will be additional capacity medial areas in Norway, where there is now a shortage of electricity (about 7 billion kilowatt hours, which is equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 400,000 single-family houses) .

The new line will also speed up the connection to the grid of about 100 small hydropower plants. Under the contract, Nexans will supply only 68 kilometers of new colored wires, which will be laid on certain sections of the route on which the company Statnett intends to minimize the visual impact of overhead lines on the local landscape on licensing terms.

 Developed and patented by Nexans processing allows to make any wire design ( produced by high-voltage wires for circular cross-section or type Aero-Z ™) with almost any color .

Vice President of Nexans Mr. Federspiel Cipro (Cyprien Federspiel) noted that the main advantage of the Statnett operator colored wires is their compliance with the background of a pine forest, but at the same time it is possible that some users may want to use color differences for to highlight the contrast of their wires and make the system more acceptable to the local community.
