Today, February 26, 2014 at the International Exhibition Center Tokyo Big Sight (Tokyo, Japan) within the framework of the International Week of intellectual energy (World Smart Energy Week) the 4th International Exhibition for the development of intelligent networks (4th INT'L SMART GRID EXPO - 2014) was opened.

The opening ceremony of the World Smart Energy Week was attended by U.S. Ambassador Caroline Kennedy, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Radink Van Vollenhoven, deputy head of the U.S. Department of Energy Steven Chalk, as well as heads of the embassies of Canada, UK, Germany, Korea, China, Switzerland and other officials. The opening ceremony was presented by Mr. Takeshi Tanaka, Director of World Smart Energy Week 2014.

The exhibition was attended by over 1,600 exhibitors from more than 30 countries. It is expected that the total number of visitors exceeds 80,000 people; the conferences will be attended by over 13,000 people.

The 4th INT'L SMART GRID EXPO is held within the World Smart Energy Week concurrently with such exhibitions as: rechargeable batteries (Battery Japan), hydrogen and fuel cells (FC Expo), solar systems (PV System Expo), environmentally friendly construction (Eco House & Eco Building Expo), generation of solar energy (PV Expo), wind energy (Wind Expo), processing technology (Enetech Japan). This demonstration format of modern achievements of world industry and energy in the field of building intelligent networks was not selected randomly. Each of the themed events submitted under World Smart Energy Week allows professionals in related disciplines and areas to study in depth the most chosen themes, quickly build a dialogue with a circle of experts and solve the same issues and have the same range of interests.

At the same time, all thematic areas gathered at the exhibition complement each other, forming a single information space around the theme “smart grid”. This allows professionals from various fields of energy to meet and discuss with experts from other related areas "interfacing" problems and generate balanced technical solutions, build business relationships.

On the opening day at the international conference hall of the Tokyo Big Sight key World Week “smart power” session was held. The session was attended by over 400 industry professionals.

Mr. Kimura, Director General of the Energy Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan and Steven Chalk, deputy head of the U.S. Department of Energy were the main speakers of the session.

“ELECTRIC POWER. Transmission and Distribution” magazine is the only Russian edition presented at the exhibition and is the official information partner of the 4th INT’L SMART GRID EXPO – 2014 exhibition. The opening day was marked by the presence of a special English-language edition at all information counters and at the magazine booth, developed in order to organize the exchange of experiences between the Russian power grid companies and foreign counterparts in the field of building intelligent networks.

We will continue to inform our readers about all significant developments at the 4th INT'L SMART GRID EXPO - 2014. Detailed report is available on the pages of the second issue of “ELECTRIC POWER. Transmission and Distribution”. (March-April 2014).
